We ’ll reminisce instead 🥹
Hey Upper East Siders,Gossip Girlhere, and I have the biggest news ever…(kidding), but heads-up, fashion fans! Unfortunately,Blake Livelywon’t be attending the upcomingMet Galathis year.
Instead, she’ll be watching like the rest of us. “I will be watching on my couch on Monday,“Blake told reporters this week. She also joked that she’ll be wearing her iconic 2022Met Galadress as she watches from home.
For those wondering, the dress in question was the color-changing, Statue of Liberty-inspired Atelier Versace gown Blake wore — then revealed its epic color change at the event’s famous red carpet steps.
Furthermore, the dress was actually a larger homage toNew YorkCity and included inspiration from other famous landmarks like Grand Central Station and the Empire State Building.
Blake toldLa La AnthonyforVogue, “I arrived in copper and then it patinaed to a green.” Then, as she pointed out the bodice, she said: “This is architecture from the Empire State Building. Lots of little references.”
Live From E!’s Zanna Roberts Rassireported, “[The] train on the dress, it’s basically the hand-painted foil and embroidered celestial map that you will find on the top of the Grand Central Station ceiling.”
And of course, who can forget the best accessory of all? Her crown!! Or, well, in this case, a tiara, which featured the seven-pointed spikes of the Statue of Liberty’s diadem, representing the seven continents and the seven seas.
At the request of Blake, jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz added 25 stones for the 25 windows on top of the Statue. Whether that was a detail overload, only Virgos would know. Blake joked with La La, “[Lorraine’s] like, ‘Who’s gonna be counting the stones?' I was like, ‘Me. I’m a Virgo.'”
For those wondering, the Met Gala will take place on May 1. See you…on the couch?
