“ Most citizenry do n’t grow up . It ’s too bloody hard . What happens is most citizenry get older . "
Kirsten Corley Bennett, the wife ofChance the Rapper, possibly acknowledged the video of him “inappropriately” dancing with other women.
ICYMI, a video went viral of the Chicago rapper grinding with women at Carnival 2023 in Jamaica, and it sparked a hugedebateover infidelity.
Now, his wife Kirsten has responded to the controversial video by highlighting a passage from Maya Angelou’sLetter to My Daughter.
In a repost from writerCleo Wade, Kirsten shared an Instagram with the caption, “I hope one day, we all choose to grow up,” along with the excerpt from Maya’s book.
“Most people don’t grow up. It’s too damn difficult. What happens is most people get older. That’s the truth of it,” Angelou wrote.
“They honor their credit cards, they find parking spaces, they have the nerve to have children, but they don’t grow up. Not really. They get older.”
“But to grow up costs the earth, the earth. It means you take responsibility for the time you take up, for the space you occupy. It’s serious business. And you find out what it costs us to love and to lose, to dare and to fail. And maybe even more, to succeed.”
While the post doesn’t directly address the video of Chance dancing, it comes days after the controversy, so it’s easy to assume there’s a connection. However, based on the endless drama in American entertainment and politics — it could also be a response to anything.
Accordingto a rep for Chance, the married couple’s relationship is doing great despite all the drama surrounding the video. “Everyone has their moments, but they’re all good.”
Even better news: Chance is set to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his second mixtapeAcid Rap, with an August 19th performance in Chicago — and “Juice” is finally available* for streaming.
