Well,Dwayne Johnsonshared an update on exactly how much longer we’ll have to wait.

In anInstagram post, he shared a quote fromMoana: “Sometimes our strengths lie beneath the surface. Far beneath in some cases.”

The Maui actor said he was “humbled” and “excited” to share the release date of the upcoming film. We can expect the movie to hit theaters on 30 December 2024.

“It’s my privilege to share our legends, songs, and dance of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families,” he concluded.

Dwayne previously shared that he’d bereprisingthe role of Maui and serving as an executive producer. He said the character meant a lot to him as Maui was partially inspired by his late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia. “How deep this story is for me, because in a way, when I bring Maui to life, I’m doing it in the spirit of my grandfather.”

Auli’i Cravalho— who voiced Moana in the original —recently announcedshe will not be playing the character again, but she is an executive producer. “I am truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific peoples, cultures, and communities that helped inspire her story.”
