Shonda Rhimes bonk how to write the most heartbreakingly beautiful piece of negotiation , and the net setting between Queen Charlotte and King George might be one of the skilful .
There are patently MASSIVE spoiler ahead forQueen Charlotte : A Bridgerton Story !
Queen Charlotte: ABridgertonStoryis already one of the biggest Netflix shows this year — like, the seriesreportedlydrew in 148.28 million hours of viewing worldwide in its first four days.
Created and written byShonda Rhimesand directed by Tom Verica, thisBridgertonprequel series follows a young Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) as she meets and marries King George III (Corey Mylchreest). Meanwhile, an older Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) is pressuring her children to marry and produce another royal heir.
The show is, dare I say, a pretty perfect TV series. There was something just so magical about the casting and story inQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, especially with India and Corey as young Charlotte and young George.
While the show as a whole is one of my favorites, I cannot stop thinking about the literal last five minutes of the series, and how it’s one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful moments.
In the final moments ofQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Charlotte crawls underneath a bed with George, and the two share a moment together, one that includes George remembering that Charlotte didn’t leave before their wedding.
And then, as they lie there, hiding from the heavens, we see young Charlotte and young George again. When Golda changes into India, I was fully SOBBING, let me tell you.
It’s a perfect ending to a show that was filled with love between Charlotte and George, even though we know what happens to the two of them.
Speaking about filming this last scene, Goldatold Netflix’s Tudumthat it was director Tom Verica’s idea to have both young and older Charlotte and George in the scene.
Coreyadded, “That is the genius of director and executive producer Tom Verica. He texted me and India, and he said, ‘Learn that last scene, and come in ready to do the entire thing.'”
He continued, saying, “It’s not the audience getting a flashback. It’s not the audience going, ‘Oh yeah, there they are, older. Do you remember when they were in that scene when they were younger?’ It’s the characters doing that.”
“They’re going, ‘I remember you as you were, and the reason I remember you as you were is because our love is still the same. Our love is still just as strong.'”
It was also the only time Golda, India, Corey, and James Fleet filmed together.
Coreyexplained to Netflix’s Tudum, “Filming that [scene] was completely out-of-body, because there were moments where I was filming with Golda, and India was filming [with] James. It was good because me and India had a chemistry, and me and Golda had a different chemistry.”
“It was the chemistry of the older George and the queen. And it was also lovely because we’d had so much time together by that point. It felt like a necessity — it was a good sense of closure filming that scene,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Golda said that it’s a moment that allows the show to express the deep love between Charlotte and George, which is often hard to do — both on a TV series and in real life.
“I always find it really difficult to explain what love is. Because, for me, love is not about words. It really is a deeper connection with that person, an understanding that when you look at them, it’s there,” Goldaexplained.
She continued, saying, “I love the fact that Queen Charlotte knows what to do to help King George; whereas, young Queen Charlotte is at the beginning of that journey. Queen Charlotte now knows how to communicate with the man she loves. She knows what he needs. She understands him. It’s a lifelong journey for them, and you see that in that last scene.”
All of the hard work the cast and crew put into making sure this lastQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Storyscene was perfect paid off because people cannot stop crying over it. Here are some of the best reactions:
