" I ’m so happy we could deal this season together ! And give thanks you for celebrating me ! "

Earlier this week, Alex Newell madeTony Awardhistory by being the first nonbinary person to win an award for their performance inShuckedon Broadway.

Alex first rose to prominence back in 2011 after appearing on the reality competition seriesTheGleeProject. After coming in second place on the series, they were awarded a role onGleeas Wade “Unique” Adams, a trans teen who was assigned male at birth.

Lea Michele, who notably starred onGleealongside Alex, currently plays Fanny Brice in the Broadway revival ofFunny Girl, and even performed “Don’t Rain on My Parade” at this year’sTony Awards.

After the show, Lea posted a selfie of her with Alex and she congratulated them on their historic win, and the two seemingly reunited for the first time sinceGleeended back in 2015.

Alex later shared the photo to their own story, saying “This was a moment for me! I’m so happy we could share this season together! And thank you for celebrating me! @leamichele look how far we’ve come!❤️”

This reunion comes three years afterGleecostarSamantha Warecalled outLea for “traumatic microaggressions” while filming Season 6 of the Fox series.

At the time, several other of Lea’s cast memberscommentedon the accusations, including Alex, who showed their support with a reaction GIF saying “Get her, Jade!”

They also took to Twitter and said, “When my friends goes through something traumatic I also go through it.”

I ’m gon na say this one fourth dimension … when my friend conk out through something traumatic I also go through it … that ’s what friendship is … and if you ca n’t understand that then you ’re part of the trouble … and that ’s on PERIODT ! And I mean that for both sides of this coin !

Earlier this year, Lea alsoopened upabout the criticism she faced and said that she “did a lot of personal reach-outs” when the allegations came to light. “I think these past two years have been so important for everybody to just sit back and reflect," she said, before adding, “I did a lot of personal reach-outs. But the most important thing was for everybody to just take a step back.”

And now seeing the two together again,Gleefans have shown their support, commenting that it seems like they’ve “matured” and “moved on.”
