“ She also talks as if she does n’t have A FULL stave OF PEOPLE help HER . ”
On Monday,Kim Kardashiansat down on Jay Shetty’sOn Purposepodcast for a candid, wide-ranging conversation.
And one of the topics Kim spoke about in depth was how she’s copingraising her and her ex-husband Kanye West’s four kids— 9-year-old North, 7-year-old Saint, 5-year-old Chicago, and 4-year-old Psalm — as a single mom.
Being extremely honest about thestruggles of coparenting, Kim said that she sometimes finds it difficult to handle her kids’ mood swings with “no one there” to help her out.
“Parenting is the thing that has taught me the most about myself,” she told Jay. “It has been the most challenging thing.”
“There are nights I cry myself to sleep, like,What just happened? With all the moods and the personalities,” she said.
“Sometimes, they’re fighting, and there’s no one there,” she went on. “It’s me [that has] to play good cop and bad cop. So, that is definitely a challenge.”
Kim went on to say that her “life” is turned “completely upside down” whenever her kids have a tantrum, before describing some of the difficulties she personally encounters as a mom.
“Sometimes, it’s nights where we are going hour by hour to see if we’re gonna survive. Night by night. If a tantrum comes in, oh my god. Your life is completely upside down,” she said.
“I mean, there [are] nights when you don’t wash your hair for days as a mom, and you have spit-up all over you, and you’re wearing the same pajamas,” she continued.
“It is the most challenging, rewarding job on this planet,” she later added.
Several users took issue with the fact that Kim had failed to acknowledge all the help she gets as a mom, noting that she’s often surrounded by multiple nannies.
“She has nannies and a lot of support in comparison to the average woman, and yet, she still complains,” one person wrote, perPage Six.
“She also talks as if she doesn’t have A FULL STAFF OF PEOPLE HELPING HER WTF,” said another user.
Some podcast listeners purportedly went on to accuse Kim of “trying to act like she’s middle class” instead of upper class, given that the billionaire was born into a super privileged lifestyle.
“Kim has four nannies, one assigned to each kid. Motherhood is not hard. Nannies are raising her kids. She needs [to] stop trying to act like she’s middle class,” someone wrote.
“So much fakeness and contrived drama in their lives. Has so much background help from nannies. [You] would swear she does it all alone,” another person added.
On the other hand, some people jumped to Kim’s defense, suggesting that regardless of the “money and help” she has available, raising four kids as a single parent is difficult.
“She may be extremely successful, and [has] nannies…but what she speaks about with four kids and one mama…is SPOT ON,” someonecommentedunder the podcast clip. “No one understands that if you don’t have multiple kids.”
“Even though she’s a multimillionaire and famous, her story and her pain is STILL valid. She’s a human like the rest of us, and she’s allowed to feel and suffer, too,” said another user.
“Kim… you’re doing it all (money and help or not). Being a single parent is HARD. Co-parenting is HARD especially if the divorce was tumultuous,” someone else wrote, before later adding that “it’s all relative.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Kim has come under fire for failing to acknowledge the extent of her wealth and privilege when speaking about her struggles.
In March last year, Kimfaced huge backlashover her controversial “advice” for women in business. “Get your fucking ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days. You have to surround yourself with people that wanna work,” shetoldfans, without mentioning the fact that her privileged position in life has undoubtedly, massively helped her succeed.
A few months later, Kim faced morecriticismas she attempted to explain the true “story” behind her and her sisters’ upbringing.
“Yeah, we grew up privileged, but people don’t know the story of [Caitlyn Jenner] and Mom having to sell their house in Hidden Hills because they couldn’t afford it, and they had to move to an apartment,” she said during an episode ofThe Kardashians. Caitlyn is the ex-partner of their mom,Kris Jenner.
“Mom really started her career and making money at 50, so growing up and seeing her hustle and seeing her get up every day with all these kids, six of hers, that she had to take care of… I saw her work her ass off and figure it out,” she added.
Kim’s remarks insinuated that she and her family had had it quite rough growing up. However, fans were later outraged to learn that everything she’d saidcompletely contradictedwhat Kris divulged about her kids’ upbringing in her 2011 memoir,Kris Jenner… and All Things Kardashian.
In the book, Kris recalls marrying the lateRobert KardashianSr., who was an incredibly wealthy attorney, when she was just 22. She shares tons of details about the lavish lifestyle they lived, complete with external help for the kids and their house.
And less than six months after she and Robert got divorced in 1991, Kris went on to meet and build multiple businesses with Caitlyn Jenner, another wealthy individual. In fact, Kris writes about the multiple luxury properties that she, Caitlyn, and their kids lived in long before she turned 50.
