It ’s about time we get some Welsh internal representation .
Marvel’s next project has finally landed onDisney+. The highly anticipatedSecret Invasionhas a stacked-to-the-brim cast, with the likes of Samuel L. Jackson,Olivia Colman, andEmilia Clarke.
This season, we’re introduced to many a villain, but the one getting all the attention is Gravic, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir!
We sat down with Kingsley to find out how he feels about joining the Marvel universe…
Firstly , congratulations on mistreat into one of the earth ’s big franchise ! Did you have any nerves about joining a universe that ’s already so established ?
Kingsley : No more than what I normally see before any job really . It just palpate like a unexampled job and a new character and , you know , what come in with all of that .
This dealership descend with such a dedicated fanbase , and is packed full of fan theories . Have you learn about any theories to do with your lineament yet ?

It’s about time we get some Welsh representation.
Kingsley : No , not at all ! I have n’t seen or heard anything . I ’m sure it ’s all to follow when the show lands , but not since filming , no . Marvel has this huge lover base , which I ’m becoming more cognisant of as sentence goes on . As of right now , I have n’t had any interactions with anyone yet .
In the projects I ’ve understand you in recently , you ’ve either been American or you ’ve had a different accent mark . Do you regain it more comfortable using a British emphasis and being surrounded by British cast mate ?
Kingsley : I’ll be honest with you , there was a part of me that did n’t want to lend any of myself to this part . I think back confab with producers at the beginning and saying to them , " where can we place him ? " In an early iteration of the chronicle , there were details about him being an ex-wife - soldier , and him being mixed subspecies was also an authoritative part of the storey at one stage .

We were looking at different place he could be from – apparently Birmingham had been done , Peaky Blindersdid it , so that did n’t work . There ’s a mixed subspecies residential district in Butetown just outside of Cardiff , and I just thought that might be a nice way of life in . It ’s a magnanimous Caribbean residential district with a military history too , so I protrude speaking to people from around there to see out the character .
I think producers were kind of against it at the source – they just thought … Welsh ? ? ? There was a sort of underground to it , and I was like , " guy rope , you ’re not even gon na acknowledge the difference between my accent and the means I ’m go to do this . " It ’s really subtle – it was n’t like The Valleys because it ’s closer to the British delimitation .
So , I have to enquire , did you hear how to say the really long Welsh town name ?

Kingsley : I do n’t know what that is .
Oh , you ’re going to have to happen out !
Kingsley : I’m going to have to find out , yeah ! All of my research was around Butetown really . There ’s a wonderful primary school day teacher there foretell Mrs. Campbell , I think . She was thefirst smutty brain teacherin Wales . There was a wonderful podcast on the BBC about her , which I take heed to a lot . So yeah , I just know about Butetown and then a snatch about Cardiff too .
