The internet is calling them " Viscount St. Albans wrench " or " Baron Verulam straws , " and they are exceedingly ripe by themselves or scatter with toppings like brown dough and cayenne pepper pepper .
Hi beauties of the internet. I’mKrista, and Imake a lot of food, try a lot of food, andreview a lot of food.#
Today we are talking BACON. Specifically, crunchy and crispy bacon.#
Now, there areseveral methodsfor getting crispy bacon, but a super easy TikTok bacon hack seems to have won over the hearts of millions of people — I mean, the top two videos have nearly40 million viewsalone.#
It doesn’t appear that these bacon twists originated on TikTok, though. This is an older hack, and it is pretty hard to track down its origin online. I found people talking about it way back in2017 on Instagram. And then I found more recipes from 2020, such as this one forSweet and Spicy Bacon TwistsbyA Well Seasoned Kitchen. So, the hack has been around for at least six years now (and likely longer).#
Making bacon straws — or bacon twists — is very simple and straightforward.#
First, preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.#
Next, pull out your bacon and start twisting each piece very tightly. One by one, line them on your parchment paper-lined baking sheet.#
Now, they are ready as-is or you can season them up! I personally like either plain cracked pepper on mine, or brown sugar also gives you that sweet and savory flavor. 🤤#
Now, I use THICK CUT BACON so I found it works best to bake it at 400°F for 20-25 minutes on EACH side. (So, bake it for about 25 minutes, flip it, and cook it another 25 minutes.)#
When the bacon is done, let it cool for a couple of minutes and, using tongs, transfer the bacon to a plate fitted with a paper towel to absorb excess grease.#
A little tip I learned is they come out perfectly CRISP when you cook them at 25 minutes on each side. But, if you like the “chewy” factor as well, cooking them closer to 20 minutes on each side will give you this perfect pairing!!!#
My final thoughts are that these are a more fun way to eat bacon, lol. I love that they didn’t feel as greasy/messy to eat. Something about twisting them felt like it locked in the flavor of both the pepper and brown sugar more (I did half peppered and half brown sugar; I didn’t combine the two seasonings ya weirdos).#
In conclusion, I am not arguing with the fact that these may look slightly like dog treats (or even umbilical cords), but I am saying that the flavor and crispness make you forget all that and think of them as a yummy, crunchy bacon treat!#
