The first trailer for Nia DaCosta’sThe Marvelsis here , and it features a first facial expression at Carol Danvers , Monica Rambeau , and Kamala Khan ’s epic team - up , but also Zawe Ashton ’s mysterious new scoundrel .

Hi, yes, hello. While we’re still a few weeks out fromGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3hitting theaters,Marvelis already showing us the next movie we’ll all be freaking out over:The Marvels.

Directed byNia DaCostaand written by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells,The Marvelsfollows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as they team up after learning that every time they each use their powers, they literally swap places.

Now, it’s up to this unlikely trio to come together to figure out why this is happening and hopefully put an end to it.

Before we get into even more details about the movie, the cast, and everything in between, below is the first teaser trailer:

Not to be dramatic, but this already looks so good! Brie, Teyonah, and Iman already make such an iconic trio, and it feels like the type of Marvel movie I’ve honestly been craving lately.

As mentioned above,The Marvelswas directed byNia DaCosta, who is best known for her work onLittle Woodsand the newCandyman. She is the first Black woman to direct a Marvel Studios movie.

From the trailer alone, you can see thatThe Marvelspicks up after the events ofWandaVisionand right after the events ofMs. Marvel.

If you need a refresher,WandaVisionendedwith Monica getting called to space, and it looks like when we see her inThe Marvels, she’s established herself as an important member of this space community.

This is also the first time Monica and Carol have interacted since the events ofCaptain Marvel, when Monica was still a child, and since Maria Rambeau’s (Lashana Lynch) death. And ifWandaVisionis any indication, Monica holds some resentment toward Carol.

And then,Ms. Marvelendedwith Kamala in her room, and then suddenly she’s gone and Carol/Captain Marvel is there in her place — we literally see this moment play out once again in the trailer.

Alongside the trio,Samuel L. Jacksonreturns as Nick Fury, of course, so I’m also assuming/wondering how the events ofSecret Invasionwill come into play.

The Marvelstrailer also gives us a first look atZawe Ashton, who has been cast as the villain, but that’s all we know so far. Zawe has appeared in TV shows and movies likeMr. Malcolm’s List, Nocturnal Animals, Fresh Meat, Case Histories, The Handmaid’s Tale, and more.

And we also seePark Seo-joon, whose role has been kept under wraps. He is known for his roles in South Korean movies and films likeFight for My Way, Midnight Runners, The Divine Fury, and he even had a small appearance inParasite.

Also, Goose, my favorite Flerken, returns, which feels important to point out — but also, we see numerous other cats at one point, so I hope Goose made some Flerken friends.

On top of all of this, the trailer gives us a first look at Monica’s new superhero look, which resembles Monica’s Photon costume from the Marvel comics.

Anyway, I am simply so excited forThe Marvels. From this trailer alone, it looks like a return to some of the classic Marvel Studios movies I’ve loved in the past, and I can’t wait to see Nia DaCosta’s work alongside this cast.

The Marvelshits theaters November 2023.
