While in the city,NBC Newsreports that Meghan and Harry were involved in a “chaotic” car chase with paparazzi after leaving the event.

A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry claimed that the chase lasted for over two hours and “resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD officers.”

The spokesperson also referred to the incident as “near catastrophic” and referred to the pursuers as “a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.”

NYC mayor Eric Adamscondemnedthe paparazzi’s alleged actions in a statement on Wednesday, drawing parallels to the 1997 death of Harry’s mother,Princess Diana, after being chased by paparazzi.

Meghan and Harry also issued a joint statement about the incident earlier today.

“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public,” they said, “it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”
