Priyanka ChopraandNick Jonashave been together for quite some time now.
The pair met back in 2017 at theVanity Fair Oscars afterparty, just a few months after Nick had slid into Priyanka’s DMs on Twitter.
By his own admission, Nick was totally smitten from the moment he met Priyanka. The following year, he recalled during an interview withVogue, “I put my drink down… Get on one knee — this is in front of a bunch of people — and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud.”
By December 2018, Nick and Priyanka had officially tied the knot. And today, they’re parents to a one-year-old daughter named Malti.
But it turns out that Nick has been aware of Priyanka’s existence far longer than you might’ve realized.
Sitting down onThe Jennifer Hudson Showthis week, Priyanka, 40, revealed that Nick, 30, had actually watched her win the Miss World beauty pageant in 2000 — almost 20 years before they first met.
Recalling the “crazy story,” Priyanka clarified that she’d just turned 18 at the time, while Nick was only 7.
“When I was 17, actually when I was 18, I had just turned 18, I won the Miss World pageant,” she told host Jennifer.
“I had no idea what I was doing,” she went on, adding that she was a “complete child” who “didn’t have a lot of practice.”
Fast forward 20 odd years, and Nick’s mom, Denise Miller-Jonas, revealed to Priyanka that their entire family had been watching her accept the Miss World title — something that understandably left theCitadelactor pretty baffled.
“My mother-in-law was like, ‘I remember watching you when you won,’” Priyanka recalled.
“I was like, ‘There’s no way,’ and [Denise] was like, ‘I remember it so clearly because it was November, Nick was on some Broadway show at 7 years old, his brother was on some Broadway show at 8 or 9,’” she went on.
“And [Denise] said, ‘I remember this clearly because Kevin Sr.,’ my father-in-law, ‘loves watching pageants. And he, I remember, was watching it and Nick came and sat down and watched you win,’” she said.
Priyanka went on to describe the entire thing as totally “unfathomable.”
“Like, that was 22 years ago or something,” she said. “He was 7, I was [18]. And he was sitting there, and he was watching… It was so weird.”
Host Jennifer then asked Priyanka if she believes that her and Nick’s relationship was destined to be.
“I do,” she replied. “Yeah, I do believe that people are meant to be with each other for whatever that duration in your life is supposed to be. And I think that people collide because you’re supposed to create — on this small, short life that you have — memories that you will take forward.”
“And I think that Nick and I had — through our lives — these weird, enchanted little moments,” she said.
