Thousands of people fall victim to hack , scamming , and other identity or information - steal schemes each day .
It’s not surprising to hear that people get scammed every day, but there are some misconceptions around scamming, hacking, and identity theft.
A lot of people think that only older people fall for these kinds of scams, though that isn’t the case.
TheFTC reportedthat, “In 2021, Gen X’ers, millennials, and Gen Z young adults were 34% more likely than older adults (ages 60 and over) to report losing money to fraud.” However, the age groups commonly tackle different kinds of fraud.
While younger folks are dealing with online shopping fraud, investment fraud, and romance scams, older adults are struggling with tech support scams, prize and sweepstakes-related scams, and family and friend imposter scams.
Since this is such a common occurrence, we should really talk about it. I want to hear about a time you fell victim to a scam.
Maybe you Venmo’d someone for a service and they ghosted you.
Or, perhaps you’ve experienced a catfishing situation on one of the countless dating apps.
Or, maybe you even clicked a link that you could have sworn was legit?
