If you’ve ever had to look for a job — or, if you’re looking for one right now — then you know it’s a downright miserable process. From the lack ofpay transparencytounprofessional recruiters, it feels like the odds are constantly stacked against you to finally land a decent position.

And the worst part is, more often than not — whether you simply filled out an application or went through six rounds of interviews — you’ll probably get rejected for the job you applied for. A text from someone saying the feedback they got after a job interview said the interview didn't like their straightened hair and would have preferred natural hair

An automated email tells someone their application status has been updated and to log in to access it; after doing so, it says they didn't get the job

This email says they are passing on the applicant but that "we are very fortunate to have a strong pipeline of candidates in the interview process"

This email says the company interviewed 250 people for the position, then has an entire paragraph about the impressive qualifications of the person who got the job

This email says they appreciate the applicant's time because "we are well aware that you could have easily spent the time you took to apply learning how to ride a unicycle or perfect your cooking skills"

The message simply says "thank you for your interest, you got rejected"

This message says "we are currently OK, kind regards"

This response says there was overwhelming interest in the position and as a result, "we did not assess whether you are qualified for the position for which you applied"

The automated response starts with "candidate first name" before getting into the rejection

This email says they are not moving forward with the applicant but provides a link in case the applicant knows someone else who might be interested in the job

The automated email thanking the person for their application and the one telling them they didn't get the job are timestamped one minute apart

This message says the person was rejected because the company "found that you've focused a lot on employment conditions and not so much on the challenge itself"

A recruiter tells an applicant they were rejected because they were overqualified, then admits they know that's annoying feedback

The email includes stars to give feedback on the application and interview process, and gives a deadline by which the survey must be completed

This email says the person has a great resume and brilliant cover letter, but the hiring team don't believe the applicant has a professional email
