Even though it premiered on Netflix back in May,Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Storystill has us obsessed. And how could it not? India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest’s chemistry as King George and Queen Charlotte had us instantly hooked.
We caught up with India and Corey at Tudum: A Global Fan Event in São Paulo, Brazil last week to chat about their dreamy connection as scene partners, connecting to their characters and most importantly— their best pick-up lines.
You two really bring out the best in each other on-screen. What is something that you appreciate that the other brings to the table?
Corey : Do you know what India does really well ? I was recollect about this the other day . This is something that I need to cultivate on — you are unbelievably open . In a scene , India is incredibly present . It ’s like everything is possible . Sometimes I can get bogged down by – this is sprain into an acting masterclass , not that I could give a masterclass ! What am I spill about ? – I think I can get bogged down into something that I ’ve researched or need to do . I ’m almost shackled by my preparation , whereas India is actually incredibly free , and that ’s something that I could knead on .
There are a lot of themes inQueen Charlottethat audiences definitely can resonate with. Did you also personally relate to the show— especially as young artists finding yourself in the world?
Corey : There are so many thing . We did n’t really make it specific — but genial health is , at least hinted at , which is implausibly important . I think in terms of representation . I ’ll definitely choke the baton to India to talk more about it . But I think , even George gives such a splendid example of how to use your perquisite with the Danbury Ball — in terms of representation , in terms of being an unbelievable ally . There ’s lesson and there ’s pain and I intend throughout the story , the main focus is about feel seen .
We’re obsessed with the romance on the show. If you could choose one line that we see on the show that actually works as a modern pick-up line today, what would it be?
India:“I’m very safe with buttons ” . I read that in the hand . I was like , shut up !
Corey : You know what , with that line , I was like , “ No , George is n’t a man-about-town , he would n’t say something like that” . So I did loads of takes . I gave it as an choice of like , ‘ Oh , do n’t care , you ’ve definitely done the correct thing . And I ’m very good with release . ’ But of course , they chose the one they did . I do n’t think that Georgia is much of a pick - up piece . I guess , “ Are you in need of assistance of some variety ? ” . That ’s kind of simple ! It ’s basic , it tees up something else .
What’s the one line you couldn’t say with a straight face at all during filming?
