If floating bricks, power-up cubes and pinging gold coins spark nothing but pure joy in your heart, get psyched forTheSuper Mario Bros. Movie, because it’s here in all its rainbow-coloured glory — and bringing EPIC throwback vibes.
The movie’s been getting rave reviews from audiences everywhere — with fans excitedly seeking out the plethora of Easter eggs and references to the original world that have been expertly woven in.
From Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo — and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic — the filmmakers have gone hard on pleasing legacy fans, while drawing in a brand new audience. The film takes on elements of the origin tale and features all the classic characters we know and love.
Luigi finds himself in the Dark Lands, at the mercy of the Koopa Troop, while Mario enters the fairytale Mushroom Kingdom, ruled by Princess Peach — who he soon teams up with to defeat the villainous Bowser.
The movie’s been whipping up a lot of buzz across the internet, and breaking more and more box office records as the weeks roll on.
The movie truly is a vibrant, fun-filled feast for the senses, and while younger kids are loving it for the sheer spectacle, adult fans will relish being back in the company of classic characters like Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, endearing Toad and, of course, Mario’s arch-nemesis, Bowser.
Most notably, Princess Peach has won a legion of new fans since the movie’s release (she’s currently trending on social media and blowing up forums) and to be honest, kinda steals the show.
Safe to say, Her Royal Highness can hold her own. And far from needing rescuing, Peach acts more like a tutor to Mario and a protector to her comrades.
Fans are also loving the film’s comedy, with many LOL-worthy moments featuring the adorable Toad (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key) and the hilarious, showboating Donkey Kong.
The fun and thrills go next level with the iconic Rainbow Road race. Here, the vibrant colours, sound effects and high-octane action are the stuff kids' dreams are made of. And yes, that includes adult kids too.
And let’s not skim over the musical highlights — most importantly, Bowser’s ballad “Peaches” — which has become so popular, it’s made it onto the Australian ARIA charts. It has its own music video too, of course, featuring the brilliant Jack Black.
