Avideoof Andi Owen — the CEO of furniture company MillerKnoll Inc. — telling employees to not be concerned about not getting a bonus this year has gone viral.

Theviral clipcomes from a 75-minute town hall meeting from last month where Owen addressed this question by employees: “How can we stay motivated if we’re not gonna get a bonus? What can we do?”
Owen answered by advising employees to focus on the things they can control. “What we can do is stay in front of our customers, provide the best customer service we can, get our orders out our door, treat each other well, be kind, be respectful,” she said.
“Don’t ask about ‘What are we gonna do if we don’t get a bonus?'” She then raised her voice, saying, “Get the damn $26 million! Spend your time and your effort thinking about the $26 million that we need and not thinking about what are you gonna do if we don’t get a bonus.”
Owen also added, “I had an old boss who said to me one time, ‘You can visit Pity City, but you can’t live there.’ So people, leave Pity City. Let’s get it done.”
She then followed that statement by mouthing the word “boom” and making an explosive gesture with her hands as if this was her big mic drop moment.
Since the video surfaced, Owen has faced a ton of backlash on social media for her indifference toward employee concerns, talking down to them, and for being a perfect example of why there’s currently an anti-work movement.
