A statement was emerge on the legendary singer ’s avow Instagram account on Wednesday .
The Queen of Rock ‘n’ RollTina Turnerdied Wednesday at the age of 83.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” the statement read.
“Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly,” the statement continued.
Rolling Stonereported that a spokesperson for the late singer said Turner died “peacefully” at her home outside of Zurich, Switzerland, after battling “a long illness.”
Born Anne Mae Bullock in 1939, Turner first rose to prominence in the ‘60s and ‘70s alongside her then-husband, Ike Turner. As the duo Ike & Tina Turner, they released numerous hit songs like “A Fool In Love,” “River Deep – Mountain High,” and “Proud Mary.”
Tina later went on to have a successful comeback as a solo artist in the ‘80s, including the Grammy-winningNo. 1record, “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
In total, Tina chartedsix songs into the Top 10on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Private Dancer” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome).” She also woneight Grammy Awardsand was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice:with Ike in 1991andon her own in 2021.
In recent years, Turner’s career has been the subject of a 2018 Tony-winning jukebox musical and a2021 Emmy-nominated documentary.
The New York Timesreports that Tina’s publicist, Bernard Doherty, said the singer had dealt with illnesses in recent years prior to her death.
NBC Newsreports Doherty said in a statement that a private funeral ceremony will be held for the singer’s close friends and family.
